Terms of sale and software license.
Who you are dealing with
Hamburger Keyboard is made and sold by Dennis Ju, a sole proprietor in California doing business as Dejuknow (“we”, “us”). Purchases are processed by our merchant of record, whose name appears on your receipt and whose own terms govern the payment transaction. You can reach us any time at [email protected].
By installing or using Hamburger Keyboard, you agree to these terms. If you do not agree, do not install it, and if you have already paid, ask for a refund.
Your license
When you buy Hamburger Keyboard you receive a personal, non-exclusive, non-transferable license to install and use the current major version on up to 3 Macs that you own or primarily use. The license is perpetual: it does not expire, and it does not stop working if you stop paying, because there is nothing recurring to pay.
You may use it for personal or commercial work. You may move a license between your own machines by deactivating one and activating another.
Your license key is emailed to the address you paid with, right after your purchase is confirmed. If it does not arrive within a few minutes, check spam first. If it still has not shown up, email us at [email protected] with your order number and we will send it by hand.
Price and the introductory offer
The introductory offer is $19 for a purchase made within 60 days of launch. After that, the price is $29. Either way it is a single payment, not a subscription, and the price you paid does not change afterward: a license bought during the introductory offer keeps that price and these terms for as long as you own it.
What the license does not cover
Please do not:
- Share, resell, sublicense, rent, or publish your license key.
- Redistribute the application, in whole or in part.
- Remove or alter copyright and license notices.
- Reverse engineer, decompile, or disassemble the application, except to the extent that applicable law expressly permits it despite this restriction.
The software is licensed to you, not sold. We keep all intellectual property rights in it.
The trial
Your 30-day trial starts with the first real correction Hamburger makes. Setup and guided practice do not use trial time. It is fully featured, and it needs no card and no account. When it ends, correction stops until you enter a license key. Nothing you created during the trial is deleted or held hostage.
Updates and future versions
Updates within the major version you bought are included at no extra cost. If we release a new major version within 12 months of your purchase, you get it and its updates at no extra cost too. After that, a future major version may be a separate paid upgrade. If that happens, the version you already own keeps working for as long as your Mac can run it. We do not disable software you have paid for.
Refunds
You have 30 days from purchase to ask for a full refund, for any reason or none. Email [email protected] with your order number. We will not ask you to justify it. When the refund is issued your key stops working for new activations, and we ask you to remove the license from any Mac you activated it on. Your right to use the software ends with the refund whether or not an installed copy notices.
This policy is in addition to any refund rights you have under the consumer law where you live. It does not replace them.
The goodwill license
If you need Hamburger Keyboard and cannot afford it, you can request a goodwill license. No financial documents or explanation of your circumstances is required. Requests are reviewed individually, subject to availability. New goodwill licenses are for personal use on one Mac, limited to one per person, and cannot be transferred or resold. Otherwise, these same terms apply. Previously issued licenses retain their granted activation allowance.
Permissions on your Mac
Hamburger Keyboard needs Input Monitoring to hear the keys you press and Accessibility (Device Control and Data Access on macOS 27) to write the resolved word back into the app you are using. It uses them for those jobs and nothing else. You grant these permissions in System Settings and can revoke them there at any time. Revoking them stops correction from working.
Hamburger Keyboard also needs a keyboard layout with its letters in QWERTY positions, and in this release it declines to correct on any layout other than US, ABC, or British QWERTY.

No warranty
Hamburger Keyboard is provided “as is” and “as available”, without warranty of any kind. To the fullest extent permitted by law, we disclaim all warranties, express or implied, including the implied warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, title, and non-infringement.
We do not warrant that the app will be uninterrupted, error free, or compatible with every Mac, macOS version, or application. In particular, Hamburger Keyboard predicts and rewrites words as you type, and those predictions will sometimes be wrong. Reviewing what you have written before you rely on it or send it remains your responsibility.
Not for critical use
Do not use Hamburger Keyboard in any setting where an incorrect, missing, or altered word could cause injury, financial loss, or legal harm. That includes medical records and orders, emergency communications, aviation, industrial control, legal filings, and financial transactions. The app is a typing aid for everyday work, and it is not built, tested, or certified for safety critical use.
Limitation of liability
To the fullest extent permitted by law, we are not liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or exemplary damages, or for lost profits, lost revenue, or lost, corrupted, or altered text or data, arising out of or relating to Hamburger Keyboard, even if we have been advised that such damages are possible.
Our total liability for all claims relating to Hamburger Keyboard is limited to the amount you actually paid for your license in the twelve months before the claim arose.
Some jurisdictions do not allow the exclusion of implied warranties or the limitation of certain damages, so parts of the two sections above may not apply to you. Nothing in these terms limits liability for fraud, for personal injury caused by negligence, or for anything else that cannot be limited by law.
Ending the license
You can stop using Hamburger Keyboard and delete it at any time. Your license ends if you materially breach these terms, for example by publishing your license key or redistributing the app. If we ever end your license for a reason other than breach, we will refund what you paid.
Deleting the app does not erase what it saved on your Mac: your adaptive vocabulary, saved license, and settings stay on disk, and we have no way to reach in and remove them since none of it is on our servers. The uninstall page lists exactly what is left and how to remove it yourself.
If we stop
A Mac you have already activated keeps working. Activation happens once, and the app does not contact the license server again unless you deactivate that Mac. An installed copy does not depend on this company continuing to exist.
Activating a new Mac does need the license server. If we ever retire it, we will first release a version of the app that does not need it, so the license you bought still works on your next Mac.
Changes to these terms
We may update these terms for future purchases. The version in force for you is the one published on the day you bought your license. We will not change the terms of a license you already hold in a way that takes away what you paid for.
Every version we publish gets a dated entry below, so you can always tell which one applies to you. Right now there is only one:

Governing law
These terms are governed by the laws of the State of California, United States, without regard to its conflict of laws rules. If you are a consumer somewhere with mandatory local protections, those protections still apply to you and nothing here removes them.
Bundled language data

Everything else
If any part of these terms is held unenforceable, the rest stays in force. Not enforcing a term once does not waive it. These terms, together with the privacy page, are the whole agreement between us about Hamburger Keyboard.
